Product Description

Paul Jeffay, 1898-1957, came from a Jewish family who fled from Russia during a Pogrom in 1895. He successfully made his living from his work selling his water colours, oil paintings and engravings as well as black and white etchings of famous sites in Northern France, particularly Paris, Chartres, and Concarneau. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Independants and many private galleries. During World War II, much of his work had vanished when his home and studio were looted. This etching of the Notre Dame Cathedral is numbered 69/300 and is signed by the artist.  The image size is 2" x 3.5" and is matted and framed in a black wooden frame.  The frame size is 7" x 10", and it is in its original condition, which slightly shows its age. The exact date of this etching is unknown. The artist and his wife fled from France in 1940, and returned after the war.  Mr. Jeffay passed away in 1957 after an illness, at age 59. A rare piece of art and history.
